Fight Designer, Freelance Violence Choreographer,
Stage Combat Instructor
SAFD Certified Teacher
Intro To Knife, Carnage In The Corn, 2009
Craig has been working as a theater and film violence choreographer since 2002. He's worked and assisted on shows all over the DC/NOVA area. Sword fights, bar brawls, Kung Fu, mass battles, stylized fights, shoot outs, lightsabers, knives, sharp sticks.....Craig does it all (well, not yet he hasn't... but he's working on it). His choreography has been called "brilliant" and "remarkable" by some tough crowds. He loves what he does and he works hard to make sure every show is as good as it can be.
As an instructor, Craig has taught workshops for colleges, high schools and local arts conservatories. He frequently travels to National Stage Combat workshops to further his skills and ply his trade. His classes have graced the schedules of the Carnage in the Corn (Des Moines, IA), Winter Wonderland (Chicago, IL), Virginia Beach Bash (Virginia Beach, VA) and many others. While he was a student at Frostburg State, Craig created the first ever student-run stage combat production. He was responsible for training actors, choreographing and directing dozens of fights. His productions were hugely successful and helped Frostburg's theater program recognize the importance of stage combat and fight training for young actors.
Within the SAFD, Craig has earned recognition as being an innovative teacher, having brought new classes to the game, including "Gun Fu", "Twin Daggers" and "Shield". A video of a Gun Fu demo from the 2010 Winter Wonderland Workshop can be seen below.

Why do you need a Fight Designer?
A fight designer can give your production the edge it needs to really shine. The world of film and theater can often be a full contact sport. A fight designer can provide a much-needed safety net for actors, while still maintaining the highest caliber of drama or comedy. Most productions could use the hand of a qualified Fight Designer.
One production can have myriad dangers; complex choreography, nervous actors, tricky props and a shiny new set or location can all create a world fraught with danger. With the assistance of a professional, you can keep your actors in good health and your liability down. Whatever you call us - fight choreographer or designer, stunt coordinator, violence manager - we're all doing one job: giving your production what it needs while keeping the actors, crew, and audience safe. |
